It’s just a few days until Christmas Eve and all the elves are busy in Santa’s workshop. [WE CALL IT FABULOUS]. Head Elf and factory foreman John Jobsworth has his work cut out trying to keep the excitement to a minimum and get all the toys made in time. Our hero Joe is particularly behind – so a new elf, Sarah, is hired to help him out. Joe shows Sarah how to make toys, as she lied on her CV and has never made toys before [SHOWING YOU THE ROPES]. Sarah tells Joe she desperately needs the work to pay for medicine for her ill mother and pleads with him not to tell anyone the truth. He reluctantly agrees.
Sarah notices a mounted Reindeer head on the wall – it’s Robbie the Reindeer who mysteriously died a year ago. It soon becomes apparent that Robbie has magical powers and is able to come to life and croon Elvis Presley style hits – which all the elves dance and party to. [TOY SHOP BOOGEY-LOO ROCK].
Some presents go missing and are found in Sarah’s bag. Joe realises that Sarah is a good elf and there is no way she would have stolen them – she must have been framed! He can’t allow her to be fired because she is so poor – so he takes the blame. Joe is thrown out immediately onto the cold streets and doesn’t know what to do. [TONIGHT]
Joe is approached by Vivienne Littlewit – a dim villain with a love of sequins. She entices Joe back to the Bad Boy Pirate Lair where he meets the Bad Boys and gets caught up in their antics. [BAD BOY PIRATE ELVES]. He also meets Titania Vamp – failed disco diva, leader of the gang, and a man in drag. With all the fun, warmth and food, Joe gets swept along as they tell him about their plan to hijack and rob Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve. At the last minute, Joe is reminded that the plan is wrong and refuses to be a part of it. Titania and the Bad Boys perform a spell song that soon changes his mind. [DARK THOUGHTS].
Joe agrees to go on the prowl in his elfish hooded top and cause a bit of trouble – as a test to see if the spell has worked. He bumps into Sarah on his travels and tries to convince her to go along with the plan too. Sarah is shocked and reminds Joe that if the plan succeeds, no child will get the presents they deserve and Christmas will be ruined for everyone. Joe is ashamed and the pair remind themselves of all that is good in the world [I BELIEVE]. Together, they agree to put an end to the dastardly plan, but at the end of the song, Vivienne emerges from the shadows – she has been spying on Joe. As Joe and Sarah walk off, Joe catches sight of Vivienne and winks at her. Whether or not Joe is on the side of good or evil is open to question.
